Buying Sausages Online – Hi Tony here from Hog Roast Dorset, we started our hog roast business and needed to find a good English sausage to serve with our hog roast and started buying sausages online from O’Hagan’s Sausages.
Here I am, brand new to blogging. Perhaps I ought to start with a bit of background. Who we are and where we’re from. My wife and I have a barbecue business trading out of Christchurch, Dorset.
We left Durban, South Africa and headed for Bournemouth, Dorset, at the beginning of May 1999. Exciting times for us but also very nerve wracking.
We decided to settle in Bournemouth because it is right on the sea and we were told it’s much warmer down here than further north! Bournemouth’s weather sure doesn’t compare with the weather in Durban but then again Durban doesn’t have the New Forest or the Purbecks.
We finally got involved in catering
We finally got involved in catering through working on burger vans at shows and festivals, it was hard work but great fun at the same time. I got to go to Glastonbury Festival several times and boy, was that an experience! But, and it’s a big but, this was all for someone else.
Time for a change
It was time for a change. The next big step on our journey. With loads of encouragement from our new network of friends and aquaintances we took the plunge. It was the start of our own little business.
We bought an old van, which we affectionately call “The Shed”, and all the necessary paraphanelia required to run a barbecue and started buying sausages online. Health and Safety certificates, registrations and all the other admin functions were attended to by Rita. She’s in charge of all the paperwork and does a grand job!
Onwards, upwards and on to sausages…cornerstone of our barbecue business. There’s nothing quite like the smell of sizzling sausages wafting through the air. They sure gets the taste buds going!
Isle of Wight Garlic Festival
After trying several suppliers we were fortunate enough to meet Bill and Liam O’Hagan at the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival and after sharing a few stories and beers we started buying sausages online from O’Hagan’s Sausages. It turned out that Bill and I attended the same school in South Africa, the famous Maritzburg College. On the sporting front Maritzburg College has, over the years produced many fine rugby and cricket players including the current newsmaker, Kevin Pietersen. Little did they know that they had also educated one of the worlds greatest sausage makers!
O’Hagan’s Sausages have been around for many years and have built an incredible reputation for themselves. Bill used to deliver sausages to his friends, neighbours and work colleagues by hand. Nowadays everyone is buying sausages online with a few simple clicks! Bill started the company in Greenwich, London around 25yrs ago. O’Hagan’s Sausages, the worlds first fresh sausage shop received brilliant reviews from celebrity chefs, the press and of course, the public.
O’Hagan’s Sausages pride themselves on producing top quality sausages. Their sausages are made using the freshest local ingredients, have no added preservatives, and use oats instead of bread or rusk as a filler. A great range of gluten free sausages is also produced for customers that have a wheat intolerence or are celiac. You can even start buying sausages online from them.
Why not start buying sausages online from O’Hagan’s Sausages
Their sausages can be bought online. Please follow the link on the O’Hagan’s page on our website www.hogroastdorset.co.uk. A word of advice…get some friends or neighbours to order as well so you get free delivery! Why not try buying sausages online.
I’ve had a look around and found that the humble sausage has been around a lot longer than most people think. The earliest reference I could find after a very short search was that in approximately 200BC, Roman soldiers took a sausage recipe from Lucania, an area in the “Heel” of Italy back to Rome. Lucanian Sausages are still made to this day using the same age old recipe. I think that’s incredible! I wonder if they made hotdogs?
In South Africa we prefer to call a barbecue, a braai….it’s a way of life out there. THe world famous South African sausage is called boerewors. The direct translation into English is “farmers sausage” Boerewors was developed many many years ago by Dutch settlers called the Boers. They used to dry the boerewors and pack it into their saddlebags for easy munching whilst out in the veld or grasslands of South Africa. O’Hagan’s Sausages do have boerewors on their sausage menu and very good it is too!
These days O’Hagan’s produce in the region of 160 different types of sausages…wow! The O’Hagan’s range is internationally inspired with recipes from Ireland, Morocco, Argentina, USA, Italy, France, Germany and many other countries!
